Slice 2: Crusty just fainted.

Slice 3: What did you do?

Slice 2: I told him about the toaster.

I considered naming this Just Loafing Around.

But A Cruel Slice Of Life seemed a little funnier and more appropriate.

Before you read any further, I feel I should inform you that I am adding this commentary in the hope that I can stretch this story out long enough that it doesn’t end up a faded photo on my Profile page. Just in case someone accidentally looks at my Profile page. [Special thanks to Sarah Lofgren for the sneaky idea.]

So you don’t need to keep reading. Seriously, you can stop now. It’s not that entertaining. And I wouldn’t want you to get mad at me for wasting precious time you could have spent on Twitter.

I do appreciate that Medium is trying to get readers to click on very short stories so they can earn their monthly pennies, but I am not a fan of the faded photo thing.

I imagine Medium’s UI wizards designed photo fading as a visual clue that means:

“Hey! This is a very short story. You can tell because the photo is faded. If you only have a…
