Charley is a dog. An old dog who has put on a few too many pounds. He is also practically blind. His owner, Frank, loves him nonetheless. They go for walks every day. Charley loves to go on walks (although they are more like waddles.) Especially when it’s raining out.
Charley loves to feel the rain on his fur and splash through puddles. Frank doesn’t mind because it makes Charley happy. And Charley has brought Frank unmeasured happiness over the years.
One day Frank got a call and had to go out during their usual walk time.
“Sorry, pal. I have a work emergency I have to handle. I’ll see you when I get back.”
Charley put his head down. He was sad. A few minutes later, he wandered out into the living room, where he noticed that Frank had forgotten to close the back door before he left.
I shall go for a walk by myself, Charley thought.
He pushed on the screen door, and it popped open. Soon he was outside enjoying a leisurely stroll. Although his vision was poor, Charley knew the way to the park. He had walked there a thousand times.
Then it started to rain.
This day isn’t so bad, after all, Charley thought. As he was enjoying the feel…
