Since few of us are going on vacations these days, I thought I would share one of mine from three years back. There is room in the car if you would like to join us.

Pretend you are 57-years old and one day you think, Hey, why don’t we take a road trip through five western states, go hiking at a bunch of national parks in the desert, take a cog railroad up Pike’s Peak, and then ride bicycles down. So you tell your wife your brilliant idea.

Usually, my wife is quite intelligent, but for some reason, she also thought this was a good idea. So we did it.

Looking back, it was far too much driving, but we did see a lot [extreme understatement] of the west we hadn’t seen before. And it certainly was an epic adventure [for two older folks.]

Our adventure started as it often does at an airport. As a retired airline employee [another long story,] my wife and I can fly standby on a particular airline — which shall remain nameless to protect me from getting countless responses with horror stories about flying on the afore unmentioned airline. It’s not my fault! I’m retired.
