Sometimes the path is wide open

It’s easy to see where you are going

Sometimes the walls close in

The way unsure

It’s best to keep walking

If you are able, take a companion

The road is better shared

Burdens are lessened when shared

Sharing experiences connects souls

And strengthen bonds

My companion for the past 38 years goes by the name of Lee

Although Lee is actually her middle name

We have hiked countless miles of life together

The ecstatic, the tragic, and all roads in between

How could it be otherwise?

She remains my first choice

Our shoes are worn

Still, we hike

The photographs are from June 2013. My wife and I were hiking “The Narrows,” a slot canyon on the Virgin River in Zion National Park in Utah. When you hike The Narrows, you must continually hike through the water and over rocks. Which only adds to the adventure. The canyon walls often tower over you as you walk. It is an amazing hike. Zion National Park is a stunningly beautiful place. Hiking the narrows was a great adventure — one of many we had at Zion.
