How I Survived Three Days Without Internet

My wife said, “One of the women I work with has a cabin in the mountains that she rents out to co-workers. Let’s go.”

“Alright, it’s blazing hot here. Maybe the mountains will be cooler,” I said.

So we drove three and a half hours to the mountains to a beautiful cabin. We went inside. It was hot!

My wife forgot to mention that the cabin didn’t have air-conditioning.

Hmmm.

Thankfully, it did cool down at night, so we could sleep comfortably.

I turned on my iPad to check Medium.

My wife forgot to mention that the cabin didn’t have internet.

Hmmm.

I couldn’t read Medium on my iPad.

Fortunately, I had purchased some Kindle versions of books by some of my favorite Medium authors. I started on Rick Post’s novel Introspectors.

But relaxing is not my wife’s idea of vacation anyway. So the next day, we drove down the Blue Ridge Parkway and took a leisurely 5-mile stroll up to the top of Flattop Mountain. Where someone had the nerve to build a giant rickety tower that you could climb to get…
