I agree completely. The countless writing advice stories on Medium constantly tell us to “find our own voice” then turn around and tell us to “kill your darlings” and “show, don’t tell” and “use adverbs sparingly” and “don’t use passive voice” and other rules until everyone sounds the same. There is even software called “Hemingway” to assure we all sound generic. It makes no sense to me. Be your own unique self.
