I agree, Lists are better than a pinned index story. I replaced mine.
I am not sure why people pin popular stories. Like medals, perhaps? Or they think they will get more reads?
But if you must pin a story, why not pin an old story that has been buried down your feed for years. Most people on Medium will not have read it.
