I agree with you completely about Hallmark holidays. My wife and I don’t celebrate them. But we do use some of them to get family together. I know we don’t need a reason but it works. Today my father-in-law, me, my three son-in-laws, and my three grandsons (and all the mothers) all gathered and had ice cream and pie together. No cards. Just family and love.

I usually post a written tribute to my Dad on Facebook also. Usually funny. My Mom shows it to my Dad and distant family all comment on it reminding everyone of loved ones we don’t see often enough.

I don’t care about cards or gifts. Like my Dad, I already have everything I really want. But an “I love you Dad” is always a welcome gift.
