I Am Officially Declaring Writing A Hobby
And it’s a good thing
The writing is on the wall — no sense in denying it. Writing is a hobby for me.
Sure, there was that golden period in 2018 and 2019 when I earned between $100 and $200 per month on Medium, for writing humor and fiction, no less. But deep down, I knew it was a fluke that couldn’t last. And sure enough, that high-flying balloon crashed down to Earth at the end of 2019 with the switch to “read-time” Partner Program payments.
As we are all aware, Medium is primarily interested in stories and opinion pieces on social issues and current events. And since my worldview is hardly popular or controversial enough to go viral or get curated, it would be a waste of time to write about it for money. Plus, I have no desire to write those kinds of stories. I would rather entertain with my writing. I am happy to leave writing about politics and current events to those better equipped to write about them.
It Was Never Really About The Money
I have realized that I primarily write for enjoyment and appreciation. I want others to read and enjoy my stories. And then let me know by clapping, commenting, or reviewing. Sure, I welcome any money I can get for writing what I enjoy. And I would love to have my novel become the next Harry…
