I feel for anyone trying to make writing a career. It’s hard! Fortunately, I write for pleasure, so I don’t have the stress of earning money at it.

I see writing like learning a musical instrument. It isn’t going to happen overnight. The basics take years. Then it takes more years to refine those skills until you have something creative to offer. You never stop learning and, hopefully, improving.

As far as promoting, I have found friends and family simply aren’t interested in my writing. Unless I post something on they Facebook they couldn’t care less (and forget links to stories. They ignore those.) Networking with strangers and other writers seems to get better results for me. I read other writers on Medium and comment. And that is where my audience came from.

Keep at it David. Everything good in life takes effort and risk.
