I grew up in Michigan. Our house didn’t have air conditioning. In the summer my parents got out the box fans and put them in the windows so they could draw the hot air in. Like multiple hair dryers blowing on you. Which were needed after eight hours of night sweats. Then after I moved out they got air conditioning.
And I moved southeast where the summers are cool and pleasant — as lava! My wife actually likes the soul-sucking, life-stealing, energy-absorbing, oppressively mega-humid heat. But I knew she was crazy when she agreed to marry me.
