I imagine a few people noticed, but I doubt they cared. Plus, "One Hit Wonder" bands were rarely well-known. Can anyone name the singer of the smash hit "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)" by Looking Glass? A few, maybe. But people still love the song. I imagine it was the same for Edison Lighthouse. And I doubt the television show cared as long as they were making money. 🤣

I don't know about the UK, but the late 60s and early 70s were a time of great turmoil in the US (Viet Nam war, Civil Rights movement, Watergate). Innocent songs were still popular, but they didn't represent the times. People will always like songs that make them feel good.
