I like the concept of Patreon. Small patrons supporting creatives. But it’s implementation is lacking. The website is basically a sales pitch for Patreon. It is hard to find any content unless you sign up. But the part I like least is its “reward for support” basis. The creative content you produce isn’t enough. You also have to offer multiple rewards for supporters. Which requires the creative person to do a lot of extra work creating rewards for supporters who may not appear.
People with large followings will probably do well on Patreon. But for everyone else you have to become a constant Patreon promoter and explainer. Because the general public is not familiar with Patreon or the concept. And, of course, you are at their whims.
