I think it is common. I don't write anything that would shock or embarrass my friends and family, but they rarely read my stories.

My wife reads constantly, but has only read half of my novel since I gave her a copy in July. I did a free Kindle giveaway of my novel on my birthday and announced it on Facebook. A couple of my friends actually read it and said they loved it. I was shocked.

Fellow writers read my stuff and comment regularly. But friends and family just don't seem interested, so I don't bug them about it.

I guess they figure they have to listen to me, but they don't have to read me. LOL!
