If you are talking about including stories in the Partner Program when publishing, I think Medium wants all stories in the program to encourage readers to join Medium. Since I don’t mind them paying me for the stories I write (I like it,) it is my preferred default.

It is actually amazing Medium works at all considering the volume of users and content, and the the different devices they use. Medium’s software engineers are probably like hamsters on a wheel running as fast as they can.
