J. Brandon, I like your idea of creating a separate publication for serial fiction. I accidentally started a serial story when someone “complained” that one of my stories was too short. So I offered to write a sequel. I am now working on part 4. It has been fun. Although it will probably only have a few more parts.

I think the idea would work great for a novel or a longer “short story” also. Releasing one chapter at a time. A publication makes it much easier to access than just being part of your writer feed. Although you are quite brave to do it while the work is still in progress.
