Jo Ann, I think the idea is that you clap like you would at a concert. The more you like it, the louder and longer you clap. 50 claps would be like a standing ovation.
I am more of a random clapper. I go with what feels right in the moment. Like I would at a concert. To me 5 claps is a “polite clap.” A “not really excited about it” clap. But still clapping for the effort. Others feel differently.
I think in a way it is good that no one really knows. Then we don’t have to become reviewers or critics following a set ratings formula. If I don’t like a story, I simply don’t clap.
In the end, I think any number of claps is good. That means they read the story.
