My Favorite Medium Reads (January 2020)

It’s February 1st. The first day of a month whose spelling makes no sense at all [alright smartypants, go ahead and tell me that it was named after a Roman purification ritual festival (Februa) held on February 15th a very long time ago. And of course, the Romans got to name everything back then, so they chose Februarius as the name of the month. Later changed to February.] So why do we pronounce it Feb-YOU-wary? Simple. Because Feb-RUE-war-ee is weird and doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, does it? So we rhymed it with January (American ingenuity at work.)
It is also time for another sampler of some of the enjoyable stories I read on Medium in January (not Janruary.) I like to keep the list to around a dozen, like a box of tasty donuts. Enjoy these tasty treats.
