New stuff is too complicated and poorly made. A screen on a refrigerator? Ridiculous. Same with cars. Just more stuff to break.

We have been renting since my job was contracted out in 2006 and we had to sell our house. I don’t miss the expense and hassle of home maintenance. We currently rent an older house. Since we moved in five years ago it has gotten a new roof, air conditioning fixed, new water heater, and dozens of other repairs. All done by the landlord at his expense.

The 1995 Whirlpool refrigerator works like a charm, though.
