People love to pigeonhole other people. And the common advice for writers “find your niche” encourages that. Yet no one is only one thing. We all can be serious, thoughtful, funny, sad, hopeful, etc.

The great thing about Medium is you can write whatever you want. You don’t have to voluntarily pigeonhole yourself as a humor writer. Those wanting funny stories may not care for your non-funny stories, but they will probably stick around for the next funny one. And you may pick up some new readers who do like your other writing.
