Stats are helpful. But they don’t always tell the whole story. I have one story that has 7.5k views, which is seven times higher than any other post of mine. Yet I didn’t think it was that special. The views come overwhelmingly from outside of Medium and the numbers continue to grow seven months later. It is an enigma. And I have posts I thought were good that got zero or one read. They were similar to other things I wrote, so why the snub?
I think you can get into trouble if you start writing what you think will get big numbers. Better to just focus on writing well and from the heart.
I also agree, responses are best goal.
