Thanks, Dennett. A reader’s perspective is certainly welcome also! I agree with most of your thoughts. Although I will admit to giving up on dialect-heavy writing. I don’t have the patience to struggle through a learning process to read a story. Perhaps I am just too lazy. I know removing the dialect in some historical settings would diminish the “feel” or “character” of the story, but I am usually not up to the challenge. My loss, I am sure. But there are so many stories to be read, and my unscholarly mind prefers those less challenging.
