The Medium Algorithm Goes To Rehab
A Story Of Hope
It happened on a Wednesday. Medium readers everywhere were shocked when they opened their favorite browser and were greeted by fiction and poetry featured in the Featured section of Medium. The shock waves were so strong, most people thought they were experiencing an earthquake. This was especially scary in the offices of Medium as they are located in San Fransisco.
The Medium Help server was overwhelmed with bug reports
(THERE IS FICTION IN THE FEATURED SECTION! AND HUMOR! AGGGHHH! FIX THIS BUG!)
and soon crashed.
Ev knew he had to act fast. He immediately called the Medium Algorithm and all six curators into his office to discuss the problem. As they sheepishly looked on, Ev began to speak.
“I am sure you are all aware of the horrific events of this morning. Somehow fiction and humor and poetry slipped by your watchful eye and made it onto the Featured section on the homepage. I don’t think I have to tell you what a travesty this is. We have a reputation to uphold. Our readers expect hard-hitting stories about why everything they believe is wrong. Imagine their horror at finding creative writing being featured. This must not happen again!
