The social part of Medum is the hardest part. It is only available via Responses. And people seem to respond less these days.

I think Medium's Partner Program change chased away too many creative types. The ones who responded and made Medium fun. The "headline" Medium writers aren't interested in the social aspect. They just want the cash. Medium has become colder and less engaging.

And the rest of the social media platforms are ranting, soapboxing, self-promotion disasters.

I agree. The iOS version of Medium is a mess. Responses still don't work (only 1 level shows.) I would rather read on my iPad but it is so lacking in features and not geared for me, that I end up using my iMac.
