To make big money you have to treat it like a job and write the kind of articles that Medium features on the home page (YUCK!) Not my idea of fun. But writing is a hobby for me. I look at it as free, bonus money. I would be publishing my stories anyway, so why not take the money? That is my opinion. I don’t depend on the money, though. Writing is not my career.

I guess it could be addicting. And some writers get disappointed when they don’t make much. So it can be both good and bad. For me, it is good. And being a music teacher whose pay fluctuates constantly, the extra $100-200 per month I average is welcome.

If you only write occasionally, it might be better to keep money out of the equation. No need to make it unenjoyable for a couple of dollars.
