Two Years And Counting
Thoughts on my Medium adventure
I just remembered that today is my 2nd anniversary on Medium. So I think I am contractually obligated to do a “What I learned by writing on Medium for two years” story. Well, I am a slow learner, so I will share some thoughts instead.
Looking Back
When I started writing on Medium I thought, I’ll post some stories and see what happens. Well, what happened was, I discovered that I enjoy writing. Let me correct that. I enjoy writing to an active audience. Which is Medium’s best feature, in my opinion. I like the feedback I get on Medium.
I also love the interaction. Getting instant feedback on my writing is great. But getting to know writers through their comments is even better. I have developed friendships with several Medium writers. Something that doesn’t often happen when you publish elsewhere.
Honestly, I have no real desire to write for publications where I get rejection letters or no interaction. If that makes me a hobbyist (or Hobbit—as spell check tried to inform me) writer, I am fine with that definition. Everyone needs hobbies. The more, the better, as far as I am concerned. Hobbies lead to a richer life.
