Weird Medium Stuff

UI and Functionality

Don’t get me wrong, I think Medium is wonderful. I love writing and reading on Medium. But sometimes Medium’s user interface and functionality drives me bonkers. Perhaps it is a west coast tech thing. Or I am too old to understand. Regardless, Grandpa Grumpster will now unleash the grump. [You’ve been warned.]

Highlighting. “Hey Someone Else Likes That Also!”

Why does Medium notify me when someone else highlights something I highlighted? Do I need or want to know who else highlighted what I highlighted? No sir, I do not.

I get enough notifications already. If someone else highlighted something I highlighted, it simply means they have excellent tastes. I don’t need constant reminders that we are equally capable of using the highlight feature.

Responses Enigma. “What?!”

Responses are an enigma wrapped in confusion, then tucked into a mystery full of riddles that don’t make any sense. The browser and mobile apps each seem to work in random, different, unpredictable, unfathomable ways.

Why do I have to click to see “Out of Network” responses? I want to see them all. I don’t want to exclude people who are not in my network. Sometimes people who are in my network show up there also.
