Imagine if writers had to go through boot camp like soldiers.

“Alright, Boots. Listen up. It’s time to close TikTok, turn off your phones, and put away your dreams. This ain’t high school English class. This ain’t The Dead Poets Society. This ain’t The Inklings. This is Writing Boot Camp. This is pain. I’m Sergeant Scribe, and I’m here to turn you into writers.”

“Now, some of you know the alphabet up to Z and can assemble words into sentences. Congratulations. Your Mama must be proud. But if you think that qualifies you as a writer? Think again, Captain Thesaurus! Any seven-year-old can write. Writing is as common as dirt. There are billions of writers on Earth. You need more than a basic childhood skill to call yourself a writer. Writers need to write something worth reading. Did you hear me? Repeat it.”

“Writers need to write something worth reading!”

“What?”

“Writers need to write something worth reading, Sergeant!”

“That’s better. I ain’t gonna sweet talk you. Writing is hard. Most of the stuff you write will be crap. And don’t fall into the habit of writing about writing. It’s tempting when you can’t think of anything to write about, but the internet already has more writing about writing than you could…
